Hancock Planning Commission: Finlandia Property and Approval for Senior Housing

The City of Hancock announced at the Planning Commission meeting last night that they would begin the process of putting in formal offers for Quincy Green and the community gardens currently being sold by the receiver of Finlandia.

During public comment, a concern was raised about those buying Finlandia property, and as to whether it would supplement the community or the free market. The commission assured the speakers that the zoning orders are in place, but it would take more time then they have to change ordinances that would place restrictions on the businesses that could be in the buildings.

It is hoped that everything with Finlandia will be completed by August.

It was announced that steps forward in the Master Plan process will take a few more weeks until there will be further movement forward.

The committee also approved a zoning application from CJH properties to build five duplexes and a small storage building to be used for senior housing. The buildings will be west of Portage Drive and north of Campus Drive.

The spring cleanup events were confirmed for the following dates:

  • Scrap Tire Cleanup – Friday, May 5
  • Pitch in for Your Park – Tuesday, May 9
  • 2023 Spring Cleanup – Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13
