Houghton Beautification, Cleanup, and Recycling

As the snow melts, trash that has been buried in snowdrifts is finally revealed, littering the city.

Houghton is joining in the celebration of Earth Day with a community cleaning and beautification project on Saturday starting at 10 am. Click here for event information.

Copper Country Recycling Initiative (CCRI) will be available to provide information on your common recycling questions, including how to recycle disposable batteries, glass jars, appliances, and empty aerosol cans. Use their website to check how to recycle your household items.

The CCRI started in 2015 and has been growing with the support of the Houghton county and Waste Management.

The Houghton County Solid Waste Transfer Station stated that the services provided to the Houghton county currently moves about 5 tons of recycling each month. This has increased from 2021, when it was 2 tons a month.
