Houghton High School hockey coach Corey Markham has officially announced his retirement. Markham had shared his decision with his team after the playoffs, but confirmed it yesterday with a social media post. In a letter, he thanked his players, assistant coaches and his family for their support over 25 years with the Gremlins, 24 as head coach.

Hancock High School standout Austin Salani has committed to play college hockey at Dartmouth.

NHL

The Red Wings concluded their season with a 5-0 loss at Tampa Bay last night. Ville Husso stopped 27 shots. In their final four games, the Wings were outscored 20-3. 

NBA

The final two teams in the NBA Tournament will be decided tonight.
• The Bulls visit the Heat, with the winner filling out the Eastern Conference bracket.
• The Timberwolves host the Thunder, with the winner rounding out the Western Conference bracket.

MLB

The Tigers snapped their six-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays last night. Spencer Turnbull turned in five good innings, giving up a run on six hits. Zach McKinstry doubled home Akil Baddoo with the eventual winning run in the top of the fifth.

The Tigers play in Toronto again tonight. Joey Wentz will start against Sean Manaea. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Javier Báez was yanked out of the game after a couple of baserunning bloopers in the second inning. First, he stopped to admire the long fly ball he hit, before realizing that it wasn’t going to be a home run. After barely making it to second base for his first extra base hit of the season, Báez then forgot how many outs there were, and was doubled off the bag following a fly-out by Akil Baddoo. The highly-paid Tigers shortstop is batting just .122 this season.

Rowdy Tellez’ sacrifice fly drove home Christian Yelich in the top of the 10th inning, as the Brewers edged the Diamondbacks 4-3 yesterday. Tellez and Mike Brosseau homered earlier in the game. Colin Rea pitched into the sixth, and gave up a run on two hits.

Rea was called up from Nashville to make the start last night. Janson Junk was sent down, after struggling in his start on Wednesday.

The Brewers visit the Padres tonight. Eric Lauer will start against Michael Wacha.
