Making Plans for the Future

Hancock residents had their first opportunity to share their big ideas for the city last night.

About 45 residents joined at the Orpheum Theater, to discuss the future of Hancock. The group Progressive Architects and Engineers, led the forum, taking residents through various exercises to identify Hancock’s strengths, weakness, areas of opportunity and challenges the city is facing.

You know, they sat me right down at a table, with some lovely folks I’ve never met before. I got to hear what they hoped for the town. There were wonderful exercises. They had people mark up maps with what they thought are asses, or areas for growth. They really tried to get at what people value. And what they want to see for Hancock future. I think it was a very well organized , well run meeting.” – Carolyn Dekker, Hancock Resident

Hancock resident Carolyn Dekker, and other attendees recognized there are a wide number of opportunities within the city. There is a clear desire for improving access to public spaces, and addressing the housing shortage. A second master plan session is scheduled for tonight at the Houghton County Arena in the Sisu Room from 5 to 7 pm.
