Side Track On Track to Demolition – Baraga County Board Recap

The deteriorating Side Track Bar building in Baraga is a step closer to demolition.

The Side Track is now owned by the Baraga County Land Bank, after taxes were not paid, and no one purchased it in the tax auction.

Yesterday, the Baraga County Board of Commissioners voted to advance $128,000 to the Land Bank to cover costs of demolition. The Land Bank has received a grant from the state to pay for the project, but the state money won’t be released until after the job is completed. When the state money is received, the Land Bank will pay the county back.

In other action at yesterday’s meeting, commissioners allocated $14,318 from the county’s American Rescue Plan Act money to replace the outdated recording system in the district courtroom.

Commissioners also accepted the 2023 Equalization Report, as prepared by Baraga County Assessor Patrick Osterman. Assessed real property values increased by just over one percent.
