Gibson Cup Tourney Begins Tonight – Friday Sports Wrap

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines begin play for the historic Gibson Cup this weekend. Game One will be tonight at the Colosseum. Game two will be tomorrow at Dee Stadium, with game three Wednesday, if needed. All games will start at 7:30, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:10 on KBear 102.3.

College Hockey

Minnesota and Quinnipiac will play for the NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament title. In the semifinals last night, the Golden Gophers ousted Boston University 6-2. The Bobcats dispatched the University of Michigan 5-2. The championship game will be played tomorrow night at 8:00.

NHL

The Red Wings fell 7-6 to the Sabres in a shootout last night. David Perron’s goal with a minute remaining forced extra time. Lucas Raymond had three assists, and netted a goal early in the shootout. Ville Husso made 30 saves. The loss officially eliminated Detroit from playoff contention.

The Wings entertain the Penguins tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Pacers tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers dropped their home opener 6-3 to the Red Sox yesterday. Detroit took an early lead on a two-run Jake Rogers homer. Boston put the game away with four runs in the sixth off Spencer Turnbull and José Cisnero.

The Tigers have today off, and will face the Red Sox again tomorrow. Joey Wentz will face Tanner Houck. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and entertain the Cardinals tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Jack Flaherty.
