Finlandia Softball Sweeps Doubleheader
The Finlandia softball completed a four-game sweep at Maranatha Baptist Bible College Saturday with 12-0 and 11-2 victories. Miranda Brewer threw a one-hit shutout in the first game. Adrianna Vasquez had three hits, scores three times, and drove in two runs. Nicole Dall earned the win in the second game. Hunter Hoogewind drove in three runs.

In their doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Lions won the first contest 12-2. Hillary Brewer had four hits, and drove in three runs. Nicole Dall gave up five hits, and earned the win. Finlandia took the second game 13-2. Brewer had four more hits, and drove in two runs. Miranda Brewer gave up five hits to get the win.

NHL – Red Wings Edge Wild
Darren Helm’s goal in the eighth round of a shootout lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild Saturday night. Helms’ shot was originally waived off by referees. Their call was overturned on a video review, which showed the goal slid just across the line before Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk knocked it away. The Wings host the Capitals this evening. Face-off is at 5:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Slip Past Heat
Reggie Jackson’s layup with five seconds remaining gave the Detroit Pistons a 99-98 win over the Miami Heat Saturday night. Jackson scored 15 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter. The Pistons are off until they host the Celtics on Wednesday.

Victor Martinez’ solo home run was the only score of the game, as the Detroit Tigers edged the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 in their final spring training game Saturday. Alfredo Simon gave up just one hit over five innings. The Tigers will open the season tomorrow afternoon against the Twins in Detroit. David Price will start. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Two Tigers prospects will begin the season on the disabled list. Stephen Moya is suffering from plantar fasciitis. The injury is not believed to pose a long-term problem. Pitcher Drew Verhagen has aggravated a back injury that was problematic last season.

Luis Sardinas’ RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 victory in their final spring training game Saturday. Jonathan Lucroy homered for Milwaukee. The Brewers open their season at Colorado tomorrow afternoon. Kyle Lohse will start.

Milwaukee reliever Jim Henderson will start the season on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder inflammation.

NCAA Men’s Division I Final Set
Michigan State University’s Cinderella run through the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament ended in the semifinals Saturday night with an 81-61 loss to Duke University. The University of Kentucky’s perfect season ended a game short of the finals, as the Wildcats lost to the University of Wisconsin 71-62.

The Badgers and Blue Devils will meet for the title tomorrow night. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
