Great Bear Chase Organizers Celebrate Successful Event

Organizers of Saturday’s Great Bear Chase at the Swedetown Trails reported a successful day.

A total of 728 skiers took part in the seven races, which included 50k, 25k and 10k classic and freestyle events, along with a 50k skiathlon.

Former Olympian Brian Gregg, of Minneapolis, and Northern Michigan University skier Lauren McCollor, of Plymouth, Minnesota, took the top spots in the skiathlon.

Race director Angela Luskin reported that favorable trail conditions and comfortable temperatures in the mid-20s produced excellent times.

Organizers thanked more than 100 volunteers who helped stage the event, setting up the course and start and finish areas, working at the four on-course aid stations, and providing the pasty luncheon at the Calumet High School.
