The 14th CopperDog 150 will open tonight in downtown Calumet.
The annual sled dog race will include four events this year. Three will begin this evening in downtown Calumet:
• The CopperDog 150, a three-stage race featuring 10-dog teams, which will end Sunday in Eagle Harbor
• The CopperDog 80, a two-stage race featuring eight-dog teams, which will end tomorrow in Copper Harbor
• The CopperDog 30, a single-stage race featuring six-dog teams, which will end tonight in Eagle Harbor.
The fourth event, the CopperDog 15, will be a sprint that begins and ends tomorrow afternoon in Copper Harbor.
Veteran local musher Tom Bauer says he and the other competitors relish the big crowd at the downtown start…
The opening ceremony on Fifth Street will begin around 6:30, and the first team will leave the gate at 7:00. Food will be available, there’ll be a block party with entertainment on Oak Street, and the evening will end with fireworks.
