Northern Lights Make a Copper Country Appearance

In a rare appearance, some residents caught a glimpse of the northern lights last night night. The Keweenaw Trails Report page re-posted several facebook posts from the local area, showing photos of the Aurora Borealis as far north as Copper Harbor. One commenter even posted a photo from Alpena, in the lower peninsula. A quick search online will show the lights made an even rarer appearance in parts of southern England

Cloud cover may get in the way of what would be a grand show tonight. The model for tonight, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, shows a better solar flare forecast than last night, especially from 10pm to 3am. Weather patterns are predicting some snow showers late tonight, and any cloud coverage will severely lower the region’s possibility of seeing the northern lights. Check out Keweenaw Trails Report on Facebook to see some photos of the northern lights captured by local residents last night.
