The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s move into the recreational marijuana industry has taken a step forward.
Tribal officials announced yesterday that the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency has approved the status of a tribal non-profit called Mashiki, which will represent tribal ownership interest in its marijuana ventures.
The move will give the KBIC majority interest in Frostbite Management, which operates the tribe’s Outpost marijuana outlets in Marquette and Crystal Falls, along with other present and future projects.
Yesterday’s release indicated that a community meeting for tribal members about the development, along with an update about the progress of the marijuana business, will likely be scheduled for mid-December.
