Members of the L’Anse village council took time at last night’s meeting to thank all those who battled the explosion and fire at the Holiday gas station October 13th…
That’s village President Ron Ervast, who noted that crews poured around a quarter-million gallons of water onto the blaze.
Ervast, who is a firefighter himself, said the all-night effort brought home the need to recruit some younger members…
He said state certification requirements are making recruiting challenging…
The inferno was caused when a truck crashed through the pumps at the station, and into the store. L’Anse resident Allan Dantes, Jr., was killed. The driver of the truck, Dawaun Johnson, is reported to be back home in Illinois after posting bail. He’s charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death.
