Calumet fought back from a six point deficit in the first quarter to tie their state championship by the half, switched leads in the third, then pulled away for a 57-49 victory over Flint Hamady in the MHSAA Class C State Championships Saturday afternoon.
Calumet, who knocked off #1 Laingsburg Thursday afternoon, at one point in the final stanza built up a 10 point lead over the Hawks. Flint was making their third trip to the finals since 2010, for the Copper Kings it was their first.
Alexis Rowe lead the Kings with 22 points, 13 to lead Calumet’s comeback in the second quarter. Clara Loukas added ten. Jalisha Terry was the top scorer for Hamady, with 26.
Calumet concludes their magical season at 24-2, there only losses coming to Houghton this year. A reception for the champions will happen Sunday afternoon, 4:00 PM, at the CLK gymnasium.
