COVID-19 case numbers fell slightly in the area last week. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports 33 confirmed cases in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties, compared to 40 in the previous week.
Statewide numbers fell for the third straight week, with a daily average of 1,445 cases – 170 per day fewer than the previous week. Deaths remained steady, with an average of 17 per day.
Officials caution that the actual case rate is probably higher. Positive results from private home tests are frequently not reported. Mild cases may go undiagnosed. Even those with no symptoms can still pass the virus on to others.
