Child Abuse/Neglect Resource Center to Be Set Up in Keweenaw

The Copper Country is one of six locations in the state tabbed for the establishment of resource centers to help prevent child abuse and neglect.

The Keweenaw Family Resource Center will host the pilot program locally. Funding will come from Children Trust Michigan and the Children’s Services Agency, both of which are part of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The KFRC location will serve Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga Counties. The other locations selected for pilot programs include Battle Creek, Flint, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, and Macomb County.

Children Trust Michigan chose the pilot locations based on populations who experience overrepresentation in the child welfare system, high poverty rates, or lack of access to health, behavioral, and social services. Geographic diversity was also a factor.
