Houghton Police Nab Suspected Car Contents Bandit

UPDATE: Hancock police confirmed this morning that the man arrested for a number of vehicle break ins in Houghton is connected to the break ins on Depot Street from a couple of weeks ago. The search warrant executed on the man’s home recovered a number of items from Depot Street victims, as well as those stolen in Houghton. The police department plans to file paperwork with the county prosecutor’s office this afternoon to officially connect the two cases.

A man has been arrested following a series of thefts of items from cars in the city of Houghton.

The Houghton Police Department began receiving complaints of larcenies from vehicles and the Gateway Laundromat September 20.

On September 29, at approximately 8:55 a.m., officers were notified that a man had been seen going through vehicles in the parking lot of a local business. A 40-year-old man was arrested. Officers executing a search warrant reported that they found stolen items inside the man’s residence.

Charges will be sought, as the investigation continues.
