Additional Details Released About Mongozid Crash

Additional information has been released about the death of an 18-year-old L’Anse man in a single-car crash late last week.

Virgil Mongozid was reported missing Thursday. After searching through the weekend, his pickup truck was found by Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police Sunday afternoon in a wooded area off US-41, across from the entrance to Baraga County Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was hidden by brush, and was located with the help of cell phone locator technology.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Calumet post are handling the investigation. They say Mongozid was not wearing a seatbelt, and that speed was a factor in the crash.

Their investigation continues.
