Two Arrested on Drug Charges in Baraga County

Two people have been arrested following a four-month drug investigation in Baraga County.

Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team say they had identified two individuals who had been bringing large quantities of fentanyl into Baraga County.

On Thursday, they stopped a vehicle with a 22-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man inside on US-141 near Covington, as they returned to the area from Milwaukee.

An exterior search of the vehicle by a drug-sniffing K9 indicated the presence of illegal drugs inside. Officers discovered a small amount of cocaine, along with 20 grams of fentanyl on the woman.

Both have initially been charged with cocaine possession, a four-year-felony, but investigators say additional charges are expected.

The suspects’ names will be released after their arraignment in 97th District Court, Baraga County. The case is being reviewed by the Baraga County Prosecutor’s office.

UPSET was assisted by MSP–Hometown Security Team, MSP-Calumet Post, KBIC Tribal Police, Baraga County Sheriff and Dynamite Towing.
