The biggest day of giving is right around the corner. The Portage Health Foundation will start accepting applications from local non profit groups who serve in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. Giving Tuesday follows a weekend of shopping that takes place after Thanksgiving, as a way to support non-profits after indulging on holiday spending. Over five years, the foundation has raised close to two million dollars in total with private donations, and matching funds. Last year’s (2021) donations out raised the previous year (2020) by nearly 50,000 dollars, with 22 area non profits benefiting from the community’s support. The application process for groups this year will need two additional forms. The application deadline for non profits wishing to take part in giving Tuesday is October 2nd. Contact the Portage Health Foundation with any questions.
