The city of Hancock will soon switch to garbage stickers for trash pick-up. Last year, the city council chose to make the change, as Hancock’s typical bag producer is no longer able to produce garbage bags for the city. Residents may continue using the city bags until the supply is depleted completely. Stickers are now available at city hall, the Keweenaw Co-Op, Pats Foods IGA, Risto’s Hardware, Krist Oil and the Holiday Gas station. Each location will begin to stock the Hancock stickers as their garbage bag supply is depleted. The cost for the stickers is five dollars for a sheet of five stickers. Residents may use the bags of their choice, as long as they do not exceed 35 gallons. The new stickers will need to be placed on the top of the bag, where the opening is tied closed. If you have questions about the new garbage system in Hancock, call the city office at 906 482 2720.
