Houghton County Fair Concludes – Weekend Results

This year’s Houghton County Fair is in the books.

At the demolition derby yesterday, Josh Benson took first place, with Tim Carlson second. Cooper Parkila won the consolation match. Clint Van Alstine claimed the Best Hit award, and DJ Paavo’s car was voted Best Decorated. See full results here.

At Friday’s tractor pull, Jim Tervo took the Class Two trophy. Clyde Peterson won Class Three honors. Howard Junkin took the titles in both Classes Four and Five. Mike Soumis won the heavyweight crown in Class Six. See full results here.

At the Livestock Skillathon, Kyla Strom won the Junior Class, Bailey Strom took the Senior Class, and Judy Szyszkoski claimed the Adult Class.

At the Livestock Auction on Friday…
• Kyla Strom’s Grand Champion Steer sold for $6.50 per pound to Laser North.
• Jewel Laux’s Reserve Champion Steer sold for $3.75 per pound to Breakwater Federal Credit Union.
• Jesy Hupp’s Grand Champion Lamb sold for $10 per pound to UP Health System-Portage.
• Aaron Sauvola’s Reserve Champion Lamb sold for $10 per pound to Massie Manufacturing.
• Ruby Laux’s Grand Champion Goat sold for $12 per pound to Erickson Feed, Seed and Pet Supply.
• Jade Hupp’s Reserve Champion Goat sold for $10.50 per pound to Massie Manufacturing.
• Layna Strom’s Grand Champion Hog sold for $11.50 per pound to Acciacca Forest Products.
• Rylee Strom’s Reserve Champion Hog sold for $11.50 to Laser North.
