COVID-19 numbers fell a bit in the Copper Country last week.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human services reported 73 new cases in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties. That compares with 90 in the previous week, and 91 the week before that.
Statewide numbers also slipped a bit, with the average daily diagnosis number at 2,298 last week – 500 per day below the previous week. An average of 16 people died each day in Michigan from COVID-19-related causes last week.
Officials caution that case numbers are likely somewhat higher. The results of home tests are frequently not reported. Cases with few or no symptoms may go undiagnosed, although even asymptomatic victims can still spread the virus to others.
