Hancock Schools Public Library Receives a $212,000 Grant for New Literacy Programs, and More

The Hancock Schools Public Library applied for a grant, and received a much larger amount than they expected. Michigan’s Department of Education recently announced grant award winners for their Innovation Community Library grants.  Hancock had originally applied for 29,000 dollars, to begin an engagement program with the school’s 6^th and 7^th graders. Now they will certainly go forward with that program, and they hope to make other improvements to the library. The Department of Education awarded Hancock schools public library 212,000 dollars. With the additional funds, Library Manger Boni Ashburn, says the library will look into what other engagement and literacy programs are possible, physical improvements to the space, and plans to increase the number of reading options to the community.
