Obituary: Bertha I. Rossberg

Bertha I. Rossberg, 90, a lifelong Chassell resident passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, August 15, 2022, while residing at Our House senior living center in New Richmond, Wisconsin.

She was born on February 4, 1932, in Chassell, MI, a daughter of the late Jacob and Sanna (Smed) Haapala. Bertha was born and raised in Chassell and was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1949. She then attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Hancock where she became an RN.

On February 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jack Rossberg. The couple resided in Chassell where they raised their family. After almost 68 years together, Jack preceded Bertha in death on January 12, 2021.

Bertha began a career in Nursing working for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hancock, Baraga County Memorial Hospital and retired from Portage View Hospital in Hancock.

Bertha’s faith in the Lord was strong, which was evident through her daily scripture readings and prayer and was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell where she played the organ for many years. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing cards and especially spending time with her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She was a beautiful pianist and she and Jack enjoyed spreading their love of music at different churches and venues in the area.

Preceding her in death were her husband Jack, her parents, 8 siblings and her sons-in-law: Nick Persha and Gary Loehr

Her daughters: Kathryn (John) Whitegon of Hudson, WI, Linda Rossberg of Marquette, MI, Susan Rossberg (Keith Shepard) of Littleton, CO, and Lori (Mark) Voss of Hudson, WI, four grandchildren, Shawn Rossberg, Maija Whitegon, Ryan and Lauryn Voss, step-grandchildren, Barb (Michael) Jennings, Tracy (Todd) Korpi, Chad Persha, Kris and Josh Shepard, and Aaron Loehr, and step-great-grandchildren, Michael Jennings, Carter, Cameron, and Keegan Korpi, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

Funeral services for Bertha will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 4pm to 7pm at Memorial chapel in Chassell, and on Saturday from 10 until time of services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
