Jed “Jethro” Hammond, 46, of Houghton passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2022, from a heart attack. He was born September 17, 1975, in White Pine, MI to Jacqueline Kangas (née Johnson, Hammond) and the late Eugene Hammond (formerly of Ewen and Houghton, MI). He was a loving father to Marcus, Eliot and Liam.
Jed had an infectious energy, and his humorous antics will be remembered fondly by all. He loved people and had a natural charisma that made everyone feel welcomed. He had the unique skill of making one-of-a-kind nicknames that won’t soon be forgotten.
Jed graduated in 1994 from Houghton High School where he played football & hockey. He also graduated from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems.
He is survived by his sons, Marcus, Eliot and Liam; mother, Jackie (Ken) Kangas of Chassell, MI; sisters, Gina (Ted) Klahn of Oconomowoc, WI, Jana (Kevin) Mokros of Oconomowoc, WI, and Ginelle (Zac) Nagel of Liberty Township, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Hammond, and grandparents, Willie and Luella Johnson, and Floyd and Margaret Hammond.
A Memorial Service for Jed will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday August 10, 2022, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.
Friends may call on Wednesday August 10, 2022, from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
