Downtown Houghton will fill up with bikes and cyclists next week, as Tour Da Yoop, Eh? makes their way through the Copper Country stage. Inspired by the great western Upper Peninsula participation and enthusiasm for cycling, Dan Dalquist and Gary Perala, petitioned Houghton to declare August 2nd as an annual bicycle day in the city. Tour Da Yoop, Eh! is a 1,200 mile bicycle tour, around the Upper Peninsula. The Copper Country stage of the tour starts and ends in Houghton, after cyclists travel to Copper Harbor for a grand total 117 mile round trip. Next Tuesday Houghton residents and bike enthusiasts are encouraged to join City Manager, Eric Waara, and the rest of the pack for a quick trip across the lift bridge. The bicycle parade will meet at Bridgeview Park before 8 am. Additionally there the city will hold a Bike Day Celebration at 5pm next Tuesday, at the Keweenaw Brewing Company’s downtown location.
