This week the Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will travel between three Upper Peninsula cities to conduct beach walks. For the first time, the two departments are introducing “Beach Walks”, as a way to engage the community and scientists to talk about the health of the great lakes. On Wednesday, a Beach Walk will occur at North Canal Township Park by the north canal entrance. The goal of these events is to expand the knowledge within communities on coastal erosion and flooding, and how the decisions made following disaster, is impacted by community resilience. Meet Dr. Jim Selegean at North Canal Township Park on Wednesday at 3 pm, to learn more about the health of the great lakes, and how community resilience plays a role in how communities recover following flooding.
