Michigan’s new 2022-2023 budget includes money to replace the D.J. Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette.
Plans call for the 41-year-old dormitory-like facility to be retired. The new compound will include a series of smaller, home-like, structures, with private bedrooms and common kitchen and gathering areas. It will house 100 residents. The current facility has a capacity of 184.
Similar new facilities have recently been completed in Macomb County and Grand Rapids.
The state will contribute $34.2 million to the cost. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Construction Grant Program will cover $63.6 million.
