L’Anse Council Extends LaFave Contract

An upgrade is in the works for the L’Anse Marina.

At last night’s meeting, village council members awarded a contract to install a seating wall at the west edge of the marina. DP Construction will do the work, at a cost of $14,400. It should be complete by the end of the summer.

Village manager Bob LaFave said the wall will provide a nice place to view the bay, but also has a more functional purpose…

We’ve had some really awful storms where we’ve had some debris and whatnot that’s washed up from the bottom of the lake. This will also serve as a barrier to catch some of that sand and debris.

Some construction projects continue in the village. Sewer work on Center Avenue and Seifert Street should be completed by the end of July. SEMCO is replacing some gas mains in the village.

The council unanimously approved a new five-year contract to keep LaFave in place as village manager. Council member Kerrie Sikkila expressed her appreciation…

I just want to say “thank you.” You do a phenomenal job.

The new contract includes incremental salary increases.

And, the council congratulated village Fire Chief Mike Bianco on having been named Copper Country Firefighter of the Year. LaFave noted that Bianco’s service has gone far beyond his role in the fire department…

You’re definitely an angel to this community. You do so much for so many people who don’t even know that you’ve done it for them, and so it really is well deserved.
