Multiple Moose Crashes Prompt Traffic Advisory

DNR officials are reminding us to watch for moose as we’re driving.

The caution comes after five crashes were reported in a four-day period earlier this month. Three took place June 10th – one along US-41 west of Nestoria, one along US-141 south of Covington, and one along M-95 south of Koski’s Corner. The other two occurred June 13th – one on US-41 at Tioga Creek in eastern Baraga County, and another along M-95 south of Koski’s Corner.

All of the crashes took place after dark. All five moose were killed.

An additional crash in late May killed a moose along US-41 near Alberta.

DNR officials note that moose are difficult to see at night, especially bulls, which are dark colored.

Because of their size and top-heaviness, moose can cause serious damage to vehicles, and injuries to passengers.
