Brewers Lose 6th Straight Game – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

High school baseball regional championship games will be played tomorrow…
• In Division Three, Houghton will face Standish-Sterling at 10:00 at Harbor Springs. Coverage will begin at 9:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
• In Division Four, Jeffers will play Johannesburg-Lewiston at 10:00 at Rudyard.

The Division Four softball regional tournament will be played tomorrow at Norway…
• Hancock meets Pickford in the first semifinal at 11:00 Eastern Time. Coverage of the Bulldogs will begin at 10:40 on KBear 102.3.
• Ishpeming faces Norway in the second semifinal at 2:00 Eastern Time.
• The championship game will begin at 5:00 Eastern Time.

College Volleyball

The Finlandia University volleyball team has added a new recruit. Kaiya Jefferson hails from Dallas.

College Soccer

The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also introduced a new player. Skylar Thomas is an all-conference player from Akron, Ohio.

NHL

In the NHL playoffs last night, the Lightning scored twice in the final two minutes to defeat the Rangers 3-1. Tampa Bay leads that series 3-2, with game six set for Saturday in Florida.

NBA

The NBA championship series continues tonight in Boston. The Celtics lead the Warriors 2-1.

MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Blue Jays tonight. Elvin Rodriguez will pitch against José Berríos. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Eduardo Rodriguez threw four scoreless innings in a rehab start at Toledo yesterday. He struck out nine batters. Rodriguez has been recovering from a rib cage strain, and could rejoin the Tigers next week.

The Brewers dropped their sixth straight game yesterday, 83 to the Phillies. Corbin Burnes gave up three runs before leaving in the fifth inning. Willy Adames and Hunter Renfroe homered.

The Brewers visit the Nationals tonight. Aaron Ashby will start against Erick Fedde.

Omar Narváez is back with the team, after clearing COVID-19 protocols.

Fishing

This is Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend. Tomorrow and Sunday, anyone can fish without a license. All other rules remain in effect.

The Ottawa National Forest will hold its Kids Fishing Derby at Camp Nesbit tomorrow. Youth through age 16 can take part at no charge. There will be many prizes. Registration begins at 9:00, and fishing concludes at 1:00. Some rods, reels and tackle will be available, but please bring your own, if you can.

The Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament for lake trout and salmon will be held tomorrow on Keweenaw and Huron Bays. Teams can still register at the mandatory captain’s meeting tonight at 6:00 at Meadowbrook Arena.

The Rice Lake Fishing Derby for walleye and northern pike takes place Sunday. Register tomorrow evening between 6:00 and 8:00, or Sunday morning beginning at 7:00 at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Club clubhouse.

Fees will also be waived for use of Michigan’s state parks, harbors and boat launches this weekend, along with ORV trails.
