Ontonagon Wins U.P. D-III Girls Track Title – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

At the U.P. Track and Field Finals at Kingsford yesterday…
• Negaunee won the Division One girls meet. Houghton placed fifth, and Calumet 10th. The Gremlins won the 4×800-meter relay. Houghton’s Clare Filpus claimed the 1600-meter run. See results here.
• Marquette took the Division One boys title, with Houghton third and Calumet fourth. The Gremlins’ Cade Holombo took the 400-meter dash. Dryden Nelson of the Copper Kings won the 100-meter dash. See results here.
• The Division Two girls crown went to Bark River-Harris. Hancock finished ninth, and L’Anse 11th. Kyra Sipe of the Purple Hornets placed second in the 400-meter dash. See results here.
• Ishpeming won the Division Two boys title. L’Anse was sixth, Jeffers eighth, and Hancock 11th. Nathan Hochstein of the Purple Hornets won the high jump, and was second in the long jump. Eli Ostermeyer took the discus throw, and placed second in the shot put. See results here.
• Ontonagon won the Division Three girls championship. Lake Linden-Hubbell finished fourth, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City ninth, Baraga 11th, and Ewen-Trout Creek tied for 18th. Lilly McIntyre of the Gladiators won the 100-meter dash. Ontonagon claimed the 4×100, 4×200 and the 4×400-meter relays. Lake Linden’s Abi Codere took the 100-meter hurdles, and placed second in the pole vault. Emily Jokela won the 200 and 400-meter dashes and the 300-meter hurdles. Nora Keranen of Dollar Bay won the long jump. See results here.
• Pickford took the Division Three boys title. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City was third, Ontonagon sixth, Ewen-Trout Creek eighth, Lake Linden-Hubbell 12th, and Baraga 15th. Nik Thomas of Dollar Bay won the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Baraga’s Christian Brown placed second in the discus. See results here.

NHL

In the NHL playoffs last night, the Avalanche outscored the Oilers 4-2. Colorado leads the Western Conference final 3-0, with game three set for tomorrow in Edmonton.

The Eastern Conference final continues this afternoon, as the Lightning host the Rangers. New York leads the series 2-0.

NBA

Game two of the NBA championship series between the Celtics and Warriors will be played tonight in Oakland. The Celtics won the opening match Thursday.

MLB

The Tigers suffered their second straight shutout yesterday, falling 3-0 to the Yankees. Detroit collected just one hit. The power outage spoiled a good outing by Beau Brieske, who gave up two solo home runs over six innings.

The Tigers play at New York again today. Rony García will pitch against Jordan Montgomery. Coverage will begin at 11:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers also suffered their second straight shutout yesterday, losing to the Padres 4-0. Aaron Ashby gave up all four runs over six innings.

The Brewers host the Padres again this afternoon. Eric Lauer will start against Mike Clevinger.
