Lake Linden-Hubbell softball and Jeffers baseball swept the top Copper Mountain Conference honors for the 2022 season.
In baseball, the Jets earned an 8-0 record in conference games. Dean Jurmu was named Player of the Year, Levi Frahm was honored as Pitcher of the Year, and Luke Paul earned Coach of the Year honors.
Four other Jeffers players were placed on the All Conference First Team – Trevor Halonen, Brent Heinonen, Simon Rajala and Cory Turner. Other local players included Kirby Koskela of Lake Linden-Hubbell, Dean Magaraggia from L’Anse, and Ewen-Trout Creek’s Brendan Polkky.
Local players receiving Honorable Mention votes included Ross Biekkola of L’Anse, Isaac Bramlett from Ontonagon, Mason Codere from Lake Linden-Hubbell, Kyle Heltunen of Jeffers, and Keegan Pietila from Ewen-Trout Creek.
In softball, the Lakes also compiled an 8-0 record in conference games. Emily Jokela was honored as Player of the Year, Olivia Shank as Pitcher of the Year, and Curtis Kinnunen as Coach of the Year.
Kara Kinnunen of the Lakes was also named to the All Conference First Team. Other local players include Emmy Bobula, Kaci Coronado and Corina Jahfetson from Baraga, and Keira Dakota and Kayla Lahti from L’Anse.
Local players receiving Honorable Mention votes include Clara Colombe, Becca Lyons and Marissa Sullivan from Lake Linden-Hubbell, Ali Bobula, Mia Coronado, and Madyson Pantti from Baraga, and Brooklyn Dompier and Sophie Rice from L’Anse.
