Stanton Township: Dr. Robert F. Ginn, 90, of rural Stanton Township, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Canal View – Houghton County in Hancock.
He was born on August 13, 1931 in Alamosa, Colorado to the late Merrill and Pearl (Rainbolt) Ginn. Following high school graduation, he joined the United States Army, using the G.I. Bill to attend college in Boulder, Colorado following his honorable discharge. Later, he earned his doctorate degree.
During his lifetime, he toured throughout Europe on his motor bike; he worked at a paper mill in Wisconsin; worked at Dow Chemical in Midland, Michigan; and then came to Michigan Tech where he taught in the Forestry Department and later in Chemistry and Geology Sciences from 1976 until his 1989 retirement. During that time he took a 6 month sabbatical in England.
Bob loved animals and always had dogs as pets. He enjoyed woodworking and made many special wooden lamps with colored glass inserts and a variety of chairs for his friends. He also enjoyed flower gardening and classical music. He loved the Copper Country and decided to live here even after his retirement.
He is survived by a sister, Betty Case in Grand Junction, Colorado, 2 nephews Michael and Richard, a dear friend, Gudrun MacDonald of Oskar, and his current dog, Mary.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in the veterans section of Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association.
