Obituary: Mary L. Bianchi

Mary L. Bianchi, 105, a former resident of Chassell passed away Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Canal View –
Houghton County where she had been a resident.

She was born on September 19,1916, in Painesdale, MI, a daughter of the late Anton and Anna (Sikonja) Pintar. Mary was raised in Painesdale and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School. Mary was united in marriage to Tauno Kolehhmainen November 28,1936 and the couple had three children. Tauno suddenly passed away in 1945 and left Mary to raise the children while residing in South Range and Painesdale. She was then united in marriage to Dante Bianchi in 1958 and the couple built their home in Chassell. In 1962 Dante preceded Mary in death.

Mrs. Bianchi had worked various jobs throughout her life such as for the United Postal Service, as a Nurses Aide, a housekeeper for the Catholic Church and retired from Michigan Technological University in the Housekeeping department. She also was a seamstress and has sewn things from hemming a pair of slacks to creating a wedding dress.

Mary lived her life doing the work of the Lord. She was a faithful member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell and helped out at the church whenever she was able.

Mary always kept busy, besides sewing, she loved knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles and play cards, especially Sunday Pinochle with her family. Mary liked the outdoors, cross country skiing, swimming and gardening. She also enjoyed watching Ice Hockey whether it be the Redwings on the television or going to a high school or a Michigan Tech Husky game with her friends. She always looked after her family and friends and was always there when they needed her. One of her most memorable experiences was a trip to Germany to visit her daughter and her family.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, her daughters Helen Goudreau and Mary Ann Kiviniemi, her
son-in-law: Robert Kiviniemi; her grandson, Robert Kiviniemi; her brothers and sisters; Anton, Martin, Julia, Antonia, Ann, Katie, and their spouses.

Surviving are: Her son: Donald (Darlene) Kolehmainen; Her son-in-law: Jack Goudreau; Her grandchildren: Karen (Roger) Paulsen, Susan (James) Weston, John (Elizabeth) Goudreau, Michelle (Jeffery) Helgesen, Bill (Angie) Kolehmainen, Michael Belland, Scott Belland and John Broaddus; She had fourteen great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christina Burial will be held 11:00 am Friday, May 27, 2022, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse to officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
