Houghton middle school play this weekend

Tomorrow and Saturday night, along with a matinee Sunday, offers you three chances to see The Story Seller’s Tale, a play put on by the Houghton Middle School. David Crowley is overseeing the production and he explains the general premise.

Esme is the Story Seller, who is trying to make a living selling stories that people can read in a town where no one can read. She’s having a little problem.

The play is mostly lighthearted, but it gets serious at times as the audience waits with bated breath to see if the Story Seller will gather enough money for rent. The story is structured into several shorter tales, made up of the works the seller is trying to peddle.

Student Esme Schmidt plays the main protagonist and says that dozens of her peers are involved.

I think there’s about 40? 30? Crowley: 32…

Ryku Saatio says the experience has been a rewarding one.

At first I thought I’d just try something new. Try to have some fun. But then it kind of went to, like, this is now a way for me to escape the troubles of life. Escape to an alternate timeline and put on a show for everyone.

The play will take place inside the Houghton High School Auditorium. Tickets are $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and seniors.
