Calumet, Baraga Girls End Fine Regular Hoops Seasons with Wins – Saturday Sports Wrap

High School

In boys high school basketball last night…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell shaded Calumet 30-27.
• Hancock shut down West Iron County 50-19.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City downed Ontonagon 57-46.
• Ewen-Trout Creek lost at Kingsford 68-62.

The girls regular season concluded last night…
• Calumet dumped Escanaba 67-34. Jana Loukus scored 21, as the Copper Kings avenged an earlier loss, and finished the regular season with a record of 17-2. Alexis Strom added 16, and Marybeth Halonen scored 14.
• Baraga overwhelmed Watersmeet 73-29. The Vikings finish their regular season with a record of 18-1.

The high school hockey regional championship will be decided today, when Calumet and Houghton face off at noon at the SDC. Coverage of the title game will begin at 11:40 on KBear 102.3, and we’ll follow the winner as far as they go in the state tournament.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams conclude their regular seasons at Lake Superior State today.

Both Northern Michigan teams wrap their regular campaigns at Ferris State.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team fell to top-ranked Minnesota State 2-1 in overtime last night. Tommy Parrottino gave the Huskies an early lead. The Mavericks tied the game in the second period. Julian Napravnik netted the game-winner 78 seconds into overtime. Blake Pietila made 29 saves. The Huskies conclude their regular season against Minnesota State tonight at 6:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Northern’s hockey team routed Ferris State 7-1 last night. Those two teams end their regular seasons tonight in Marquette.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team opened the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association tournament with a 5-0 loss at top-seeded Adrian College last night. The Bulldogs outshot the Lions 47-8. Those teams skate in Adrian again this afternoon.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers fell 5-4 at West Bend last night. The Bombers scored the game-winner with 30 seconds remaining. The Pioneers visit the Fond du Lac Bears tonight.

The Calumet Wolverines lost to the Bears 6-3 last night, and visit the Bombers this evening.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Boston Celtics today at noon. Coverage will begin at 11:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
