The Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility is hosting three open houses beginning on February 8th until early April, meant to entice potential job seekers. Prisons across the state are suffering from a staff shortage and looking to hire. Applications will be accepted on site. The announcement recommends dress attire along with a change of clothes to complete the physical fitness test requirement.
If selected, the next UP training academy begins on April 18th. New staff are required to complete 320 hours of instruction (approximately eight weeks) plus two months of on-site training. The Department of Corrections says pay is competitive and state benefits are available for new hires. The Baraga Correctional Facility has a capacity of 868 inmates.
