Calumet’s Red Jacket Road To Get Upgrade

Houghton County is among eight rural counties in Michigan to get a share of the $2.4 million designated to upgrade roads in urban to “all-season” status.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says the money comes from the state Category F Transportation Economic Development Fund that seeks to upgrade the roads to support economic growth and keep Michigan open for business year-round.

The funds will be used locally in Calumet Township to reconstruct about a third of a mile of Red Jacket Road.

This roadway is part of a main route from US-41 to Calumet and provides access to several downtown businesses and is a connection between US-41 and M-203.

The $750,000 project will receive $375,000 in state funding and $375,000 in match funds from the road commission.
