Laurium hires new manager

Laurium’s new manager comes from a background in aerospace and the defense industry. Now her goal is to strap a rocket to the back of the village as it attempts a comeback story.

Laurium has changed from an administrator role to village manager for the first time in its history, making the hire of Diana Lewitzke a noteworthy one. She has prior experience as a tax preparer and accountant. One of her first orders of business is to modernize village systems. She also wants to see more community engagement, both at council meetings and helping to plan events around town.

Lewitzke wants to help Laurium establish its own identity, separate from that of neighboring Calumet. The goal is to further highlight the recreational opportunities and historic charm of the village to attract visitors. Lewitzke says that getting them to stay for longer when they come, and even make plans to visit again, will make her tenure as manager a success.

Diana Lewitzke was appointed as the Village of Laurium Manager during the Special Council Meeting held 22 November 2021; her first day as Manager was 06 December 21.

Diana’s previous work experience includes tax preparation and working as an accountant in the aerospace and defense industry. Lewitzke is currently implementing the use of modern technologies to help save time and money. “We are starting from the ground up to make this community what it needs to be, and encourage the residents to attend meetings, become involved, and use their voice,” said Lewitzke.

“I would like to maintain the charm of the Village, while building a stronger sense of community and culture,” said Lewitzke. “I’d also like for visitors to stay a little longer and revisit often.”
