COVID-19 cases drop locally

The number of COVID-19 cases are on the decline locally. For the seven-day period ending January 26th, Houghton County registered 513 cases, with Baraga adding 100 and Keweenaw seeing an increase of 23. For all three counties, that represents a drop from the prior week. Keweenaw’s COVID activity fell by over a third.

Positivity rates are coming down too. Less than 15 percent of Baraga County tests were positive. Last week that number was closer to 25 percent. Omicron has been characterized by a surge in case counts around the globe, but the length of the rise is significantly shorter than that seen with other variants.

Houghton and Keweenaw Counties registered one death each.
