Baraga County revamping its website

The Baraga County rebranding project took a step forward last night. The county board of commissioners voted to spend $35,000 to rebuild the county’s website. The current site has been criticized as being difficult for consumers to navigate, and even more challenging for county staffers to edit and post new material. Debbie Stouffer, from the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce, said the new KeweenawBay.org website will again encompass four major entities, including county government, the convention and visitors bureau, the chamber of commerce, and the economic development corporation. County Clerk Wendy Goodreau said the new site will be able to accommodate expanded consumer services.

We now have to offer the ability for people to search court records. My office is getting ready to launch this spring the ability to do online land searches, as well as online recording.

Approval of the development money is conditional upon a determination that COVID-19 relief funds can be used.

In other action, Jay Fish was appointed to the newly expanded Parks and Recreation Committee. Commissioners are still hoping to add a representative from Spurr Township to that group. Jim Lohman, Shirley Younggren and Bill Menge were reappointed to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital board, and Deanna Foucault and Carole Hokkanen were reappointed to the were reappointed to the Baraga County Extended Care Corporation board. That board still has one unfilled vacancy. Anyone interested in applying should contact County Clerk Wendy Goudreau.
