Brother, can you spare a quarter? L’Anse sewer rates going up

Sewer rates in the Village of L’Anse will be going up, but just by a little bit. At last night’s council meeting, manager Bob LaFave said bids for the next phase of the village’s sewage system rebuild came in higher than expected. LaFave said inflation and supply chain issues are to blame.

Across the board, I know everybody’s seeing inflationary prices hit, whether you’re buying gas at the pump or meat or other food at the grocery store. We’re not immune to that as well.

Fortunately, the federal government has offered another $500,000 to make up the difference. Federal funding requires a minimum amount of system revenue, so council members approved a modest increase of 25-cents per month to reach that level.
