Blood supply still dangerously low

The UP Regional Blood Center is warning again that it is in critical need of all blood types. The blood bank supplies 13 UP hospitals, getting donations through three permanent sites in Marquette, Escanaba, and Hancock, plus community drives.

The next one is scheduled for Monday, January 17th in Chassell at the fire hall. It will last from 3:00-6:00 PM. Walk-ins are welcome or you can schedule an appointment by calling (906) 449-1450. Another drive is set for next Tuesday at Finlandia. Collections recently have been above normal. The UP Regional Blood Center held its annual event at Houghton High School last month, setting a record with 34 units taken in. It was not enough to help alleviate the current shortage though.

You are not eligible to give blood if you have donated within the last eight weeks.
