Multiple arrests made in prescription drug theft

Two people from Laurium were arrested Tuesday related to a breaking and entering case in neighboring Calumet. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department apprehended a 47-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman. They are accused of stealing prescription pills from the apartment of a recently deceased tenant.

The investigation has not concluded, and the sheriff’s department says new charges are likely, as well as the potential for more arrests.

Houghton County has a drop off program available year-round to help dispose of unneeded prescriptions, and expired medication. The sheriff’s office says that doing so in a timely manner is the best way to remain safe and avoid the potential for a crime, such as breaking and entering or theft.
