Obituary: John Kronquist

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

John C. Kronquist, 71, a resident of Copper Harbor passed away on Thursday December 2, 2021, at the Green Tree of Hubbell.

He was born on March 31, 1950, in Marinette, Wisconsin to Roy and Patricia (McCarthy) Kronquist. He attended the local schools and graduated from Marquette High School with the Class of 1968. Following high school, John attended Northern Michigan University from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. He enlisted with the United States Army serving at Fort Bragg and later in Germany during the Vietnam Era. While stationed in Germany, he was able to travel and explore Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1976.

He went on to work as a private contractor with a company with contracts with the Department of Defense. Over his 30-year career he worked in Alaska, Taiwan, and finally Bangkok, Thailand. He spent 20 years in Thailand and loved it. He was able to explore the Eastern portion of the World and Australia.

When he retired, he wanted to travel in his motor home around the states, but this plan was delayed as he spent his first year of retirement taking care of his father until his death.

John was a curious man and loved to learn about anything and everything. He loved to read science fiction and historical novels as well as history.

John’s travels across the US took him to places like Bisbee, AZ and Copper Harbor, MI. When he decided to build a log cabin in Copper Harbor his family was surprised since he went from living in one of the world’s largest cities to Copper Harbor. He loved it there and loved the friends he made. His family is grateful he made such wonderful and supportive friends. He was truly blessed by his friendships.

He is survived by his sister: Mary Kronquist of Holt, Michigan, along with many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as many friends from his work and travels.

A Celebration of Life/Irish Wake will take place in the Spring of 2022.
