Online silent auction begins today

With the cancellation of the Holiday Hoopla dinner, the silent auction to benefit career and technical education students moves online. It will run through December 8th, next Wednesday. A link is available here.

The Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance is responsible for raising funds for a $1,000 scholarship for CTE students at 11 high schools throughout the Copper Country Intermediate School District. The fund is administered by the Portage Health Foundation.

There are 42 items up for auction this year, donated by several area businesses or crafted by welding students. Four hockey tickets, entry to the Mont Ripley Tubing Park, a trip for two to Isle Royale via the sea plane, or a hand made fire pit and wood splitter are some of the highlights.

The full press release is below.

While the covid pandemic has continued to stifle our efforts to bring people together for our annual auction it is not stifling our efforts to support the futures of our youth. This year we are continuing our efforts to raise funds to support students who are looking to pursue a skilled trade after high school. Two years ago we announced our partnership with the Portage Health Foundation that ensures that one graduating senior from each of the high schools in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties including the Horizons High School has available $1,000 scholarships to pursue a certificate, one or two-year skilled trades program. PHF has assumed the provision of the scholarships on an annual basis and KEDA has committed to continue to raise funds annually for the scholarship endowment that PHF has established.

The annual silent auction is only possible because of the generously donated items, our school districts, and the Copper Country ISD CTE classes that have built items specifically to support this skilled trades auction. Without this support, we would not be able to make these scholarships available.

You do not need to register to view the items but if you wish to bid on the items you must register. Registration is completely free. Registration collects contact information only. Winning bidders will be notified by email with payment for the winning bid made directly to KEDA at the time the item is picked up. Pickup instructions are noted at the bottom of each item description.

To register click on the Login/Register button at the top right of your screen. Once you have registered and signed in, click on the green tab in the upper left-hand corner and either select all items or scroll to a category of your choice.
