State Representative Scott Dianda is the 2014 Timbermen Legislator of the Year.
The award is given by the Michigan Association of Timbermen…an organization that works on important forestry issues, provides lines of insurance for timbermen, works with governmental leaders on issues and solutions and works to build support for forests by the public.
In a statement, Dianda said the timber industry is important to not only the economic health of the communities he represents, but also to Michigan’s economy as a whole.
Dianda is being recognized for his efforts in the 2013-14 legislative session, which included introducing House Resolution 434, concerning forestry certification standards in constructing and renovating state-owned buildings.
Timbermen board member Glen Tolksdorf called Dianda a strong supporter of the timber industry and the state’s economy, adding the Dianda has family working in the timber industry, and he knows firsthand how vital the timber industry is to Michigan’s economic well-being.
Dianda will receive the award at the group’s annual convention in April.
