Calumet Plays for Regional Volleyball Crown Tonight – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

Calumet will face Elk Rapids for a Division Three regional volleyball championship tonight. Our coverage from Saint Ignace will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. The winner will face either McBain or Beaverton in the quarterfinals Tuesday night at Grayling.

The Calumet football team is preparing for Saturday’s regional championship game at Standish-Sterling. Donations are still being accepted to help cover the cost of the trip. Contribute online here. Coverage of Saturday’s game will begin at 12:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

College Basketball

Both Finlandia University basketball teams lost to Lakeland University last evening.
• The men fell 119-71. Rae’quan Funches led the Lions with 13 points.
• The women lost 62-46. Katie Lundeen scored 13 points.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team has inked a new recruit. Soraya Timms is a three-time all-state honorable mention guard from East Lansing High School.

College Basketball

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team will honor members of the military at its games this weekend. Active and retired service members will be admitted free, as the Lions host Aurora University tomorrow and Saturday. Team members will wear special jerseys, that will be sold at silent auction. Proceeds will be donated to the Calumet National Guard.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will host the Washington Capitals tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, we’ll join the game after high school volleyball on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Pistons’ offense found some traction last night, as Detroit defeated the Houston Rockets 112-104. Jerami Grant poured in a season-high 35 points.

The Pistons visit the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

Milwaukee Brewers’ closer Josh Hader has been named the National League Reliever of the Year for the third time.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Baltimore Ravens visit the Miami Dolphins. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Lions claimed receiver Josh Reynolds off waivers from the Tennessee Titans yesterday. Reynolds played his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he was a teammate of current Detroit quarterback Jared Goff.

Deer Hunting

With the start of the firearm deer hunting season coming up on Monday, the Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club has scheduled two sight-in sessions for hunters. Stop by their clubhouse Saturday or Sunday between 10:00 and 5:00 to get a target. Club members will be available at the range to assist. The club will have hot coffee and refreshments, and will have numerous prizes to raffle off. There is no charge, and all hunters are welcome.
