Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly looking for holiday drivers

It’s a busy time for Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly. Lambda Chi fraternity helped out with the annual food drive this past weekend (over 6,600 pounds collected!), and members were splitting wood to be delivered in time to provide comfort through the snow and cold of winter.

The holiday season provides one more chance for volunteers to put a smile on the face of a neighbor. This is the 40th anniversary of Little Brothers’ meal delivery program. They drop off over 1,000 Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners across five counties. Executive Director Cathy Kass-Aten says that requires the help of the whole community.

We will be utilizing nine different site throughout five counties, which requires a lot of volunteer help. We don’t want any elder to be alone or go without a good meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas, so people can call us any time, [starting] now.

You can reach Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly by phone at (906) 482-6944.

Drivers are expected to do more than just drop off turkey, ham, and a slice of pie. The most rewarding aspect of the experience is providing fellowship to those who may find it hard to come by on what is meant to be a joyous occasion.
